"History
In 1896 , the company Jernymo Pereira Campos e Hijos (Ricardo, Domingos, Henrique and João) was founded, specialized in the manufacture of ceramics and tiles using raw materials from the Aveiro region. In 1903 a tough competition began with the ceramic company Fuente Nova, with which Pereira also built a glass factory. With the arrival of the First World War , the current factory was built and in 1923 it became a public limited company. In the following decades, it integrates other companies: SARL, the Ceramics of Viana, the Alvarães Factory ( Viana do Castelo ), the Louça de Viana Factory, da Meadela (Víana do Castelo) and the Sabugo Factory (Sinthra ). In the 1960s he went through economic difficulties and finally came under control of Banco Pinto de Magalhães.
Building
The factory was abandoned and in 1995 its recovery began. For this, almost the entire interior was demolished, preserving the facades and chimneys. The environment was in turn recovered. It is a building inspired by English industrial architecture with red ceramics from the area. There is a main body with three floors and another with two floors that are openwork with semicircular openings. The façade is covered by a crenellated cornice where the name of the company and the date of construction can be read on the tile. Above the building stands a chimney with a circular section and exposed brick. In front of the building there is a lake formed by one of the Aveiro estuaries and another of the chimneys is located on it, over the water. It currently houses theAviero Cultural and Congress Center and a restaurant. Some of the refractory ovens from the old factory are preserved."
