The Public Poetry Pavilion was unveiled in Schiedam on October 2, 2012; a water artwork that offers space for encounters in a unique place. Art that is beautiful to look at at the same time is also a special and well-known meeting point.
The water artwork Public Poetry Pavilion was designed by Breda artists Martin and Inge Riebeek. In the design, the artist duo assumed that the artwork must be accessible to a large audience. “We want to create a monument of real encounters on Stationsplein,” says Inge Riebeek.
When no one is in the gazebo, passers-by read an inviting text on the top ring. When someone enters the gazebo, a pink text appears on the top ring and a thin water curtain falls down. Through the water curtain, visitors see their surroundings through a thin water film.

The artwork fits in well with the character of the surroundings, the business location Schieveste and is an important entrance to the city center. Schieveste is an area in full development, where people meet each other in various functions: working, learning, living and relaxing. The station is one of the gates to the inner city, which is marked by the artwork. The work is a welcome for visitors, residents and commuters.
