The library was built in 1968. The building has not changed since then, but the surroundings sure have.

The library of Altoona was originally in another location. In 1968 this spot was chosen for the new library to be built. It is still located here, but most of the surrounding buildings have since changed. 17th Avenue became a main entrance into the city. There is a lot more traffic with more traffic signals. The brick sidewalks are evident in a few spots but here are now cement. The house on the right is now a parking lot. The school in the center distance has been removed.

The "then" photo is not dated, but the library was built in 1968.

The construction of the library photographs can be found in the library's collection of photos: (visit link)
Year photo was taken: 1968
