The First Ecclesiastical Society of Winchester was established on May 4, 1768. The first congregational church was built in 1769. A new church was planned in 1840, completed in 1841 and dedicated in June 1842. In 1954 the church was moved 40' to a new foundation.
The Greek Revival style church has two steps leading up to a portico entrance, The pediment above the central entrance is supported by four fluted Doric columns. Rising from the apex of the gable roof is a three stage tower. The lowest tier is a short square tower. The middle tier is a smaller square belfry with louvered windows flanked by two Doric columns on each side. The upper tier windowless with two Doric columns on each side.
The sides of the church have four rectangular windows on each side. The east side has a paved pathway leading to a double door auxiliary entrance at the foundation level. A large complex of buildings is attached to the back of the church.
