A collaborative community art project
depicting some of the barriers to homelessness
and the relative size of the problem.
If you wish to sponsor a birdhouse call Dave at 250-488-5936.
We ask for a $50.00 donation.
All proceeds to combat the problems of homelessness.
Thank you to everyone that painted the birdhouses.
Special thanks to The Painted Chair.
In 2021, David Mattes of Oliver helped put together a showcase of approximately 40 birdhouses in support of the homeless in the South Okanagan. The bird houses are purchased and built by Mattes and then decorated by members of the community, including some by the Painted Chair, an upcycling store that provides support for those in need and with developmental disabilities.
All the birdhouses are mounted on a single wooden pole that stand about 7 feet tall. There are some that are very unique, each are individually hand crafted with an array of different themes. Some include a school house, a Cozy Trailer reminiscent of vintage 1950s, a bird house covered with British Columbia license plates. All are brightly colored and some have the donor's name painted on the poles.
