The mountain of Ben Lawers rises north of Loch Tay in the central highlands of Scotland in south-west Perthshire. It is 3,984 feet high, and various attempts were made in the past to try and get the summit over the 4,000 feet barrier by building very tall cairns. All attempts proved futile, but the current well constructed cairn on the summit is around six foot tall and shares the summit area with a damaged Ordnance Survey triangulation pillar which is in danger of toppling over on its eroded rock.

The mountain, despite its lofty height, is easily climbed from the south-west by a well constructed path built by the National Trust for Scotland, who own the land on which the mountain and its lower neighbours stand.
