Colonel John E. Greenwood USMC (Ret)
1927 - 2015
Commanding Officer 1st Battalion/27th Marines 1968
" ... I served as his executive officer in 1968, when he commanded the 1st Battalion, 27th Marines, and can attest to his courage and conviction in leading the Battalion in the successful accomplishment of all assigned missions, under very difficult conditions. He was a very compassionate leader who cared deeply for his men and mourned the heavy casualties the battalion sustained. His impressive record of service to country and Corps set a standard of service for all Marines."
