The King Street Water Tower supplied water to homes in the Caboolture region for decades. It had a capacity of 273,000 litres, but was disconnected in the mid-1990's when the local water network was linked directly to the Morayfield Reservoir. These days Unitywater (the local water and sewerage company) uses the tower as a vital part of modern communication networks.

The 25 metre tall tower "sits next to the former site of Newman House (now Bolton Clarke Fernhill), which was donated to the RSL [Returned Servicemen League] by the Newman family after WW2 and became Fernhill, a home for returned veterans in the 1950s.

"The original house was also the secret base at which all intelligence messages from the New Guinea Coast Watchers were received and decoded, playing an important role in the war. In recent years, the water tower has been the location of the local dawn service.

"The mural was designed by artwork collective The Brightsiders, in collaboration with Unitywater, Caboolture RSL, Bolton Clarke Fernhill and the local community. More than 3,700 people voted on the mural design.

"On the west-facing side, the image of a young girl in a WW2 nurse's uniform pays tribute to nurses past and present, caring for our veterans and active personnel.

"On the east-facing side, there is a silhouette of an Australian soldier illuminated against the rising sun which symbolises the ANZAC spirit shining through the community.

"The ANZAC wreath wraps around the top of the tower, with the traditional rosemary and red poppy woven in, along with native species found in the Caboolture region including Bottle Brush, Paperbark, Moreton Bay Fig leaves and Banksia." [From interpretative sign at the base of the tower.]
