Étienne Desmarteau (Boucherville, Québec, 4 février 1873 - Montréal, 29 octobre 1905 à l'âge de 32 ans) est célèbre pour avoir remporté la médaille d'or aux Jeux olympiques d'été de Saint-Louis de 1904 au lancer du marteau lourd de 56 livres. C'était la première medaille olympique du Canada dans l'histoire des jeux.

This monument, which is located in Étienne Desmarteau Park in the Rosemont - Petite-Patrie borough in Montreal, was erected to honor Canadian Olympic athlete Étienne Desmarteau.
Étienne Desmarteau (Boucherville, Quebec, February 4, 1873 - Montreal, October 29, 1905 at the age of 32) is famous for winning the gold medal at the 1904 Summer Olympics in Saint-Louis in the 56 pounds heavy hammer throw. It was Canada's first Olympic medal in the history of the games.
