It is located in the Al Fahidi Fort, built in 1787 and considered the oldest building in the city.

The museum was opened by the ruler of Dubai on May 12, 1971, with the aim of presenting the traditional way of life in the city. It includes local antiques and objects from different countries in Africa and Asia that traded with Dubai.

It is dedicated to the archeology and history of Dubai.
