The Witch Hazel Works, former home of the E.E. Dickinson Witch Hazel Distillery sports a witch weathervane.

For more than 100 years, the E.E. Dickinson Company manufactured witch hazel (a patent medicine, distilled from the branches of the witch hazel bush, discovered by Native Americans in New England) in this factory in Essex, Connecticut. The property consisted of a variety of wood and masonry buildings including a distillery building and a bottling plant. At one time the company produced 50 percent of the witch hazel used in the world.
In the 80's manufacture of the witch hazel products shifted to East Hampton and this building was left empty. It was sold to an investment group in 1983, then sold through several more companies until 1995 when it was renovated into office spaces. Since then the Works have expanded, and now include a coffee shop, a brewery and cafe, but it still displays original details such as a small section of train line that used to intersect the building.
The weathervane sits atop the central tower of the former factory and features a witch atop a broomstick.
