First Congregational Church was established in in 1737 in Wintonbury, CT which later was renamed Bloomfield, CT in 1835. A second church was built in 1801 and the current church was erected on the same site in 1858. The original steeple was destroyed by wind in 1862 and was replaced with a the current steeple which includes a clock. A parish house and Fellowship Hall were added in 1958.

The Greek Revival style First Congregational Church has a set of steps leading up to a portico entrance. The pediment above the portico entrance is supported by four fluted columns with leaf design capitals. On the lower level the central wooden double door entrance is flanked by a pair of 4 by 4 double hung windows. Above the entrance is the date 1858. Flanking the entrance are a pair of 4 by 4 double hung windows with rounded tops.

A three tiered steeple rises from the apex of the gable roof. The lowest tier is a short square tower. Te middle tier is a belfry with louvered windows with rounded tops. Above the front window is a clocks. The upper part is a tapered hexagonal spire topped by a weather vane.

The west side of the church has five two story high 6 by 12, pane double hung windows. Beneath the first window is a projecting entrance covered by a gable roof. The east side has five two story high 6 by 12, pane double hung windows with an addition projecting to the east from the last two bays.
