Lagnes est une commune française située dans le département de Vaucluse, en région Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur.
Moyen Âge
Lagnes est citée en 1154 sous le nom de Lagnas.
Co-seigneurie du xiiie au xvie siècle puis indépendance administrative. Du xie au xiiie siècle, l'abbaye Saint-André de Villeneuve-lès-Avignon y possédait une église, Sancti Joannis de Greso (Saint-Jean du Grès), qui passa ensuite à l’évêque de Cavaillon.
Période moderne
En 1648, malgré les promesses faites aux habitants souhaitant rester sous l'autorité du Saint-Siège, Innocent X érigea le fief en marquisat, au profit de Louis de Cambis.
En 1720, la peste commence à remonter de Marseille à travers toute la Provence. Pour protéger le Comtat Venaissin des pestiférés de Provence, les communes de la région commencent alors la construction d'un mur sur 27 kilomètres, le « mur de la peste » dont certaines parties sont encore visibles sur la commune.
Au xviiie siècle, la seigneurie est partagée entre les Cambis et les Fortia qui occupaient deux résidences distinctes, séparées par une cour à l'intérieur de l'enceinte castrale.
Période contemporaine
Lagnes a été chef-lieu de canton durant la Révolution (du 14 septembre 1791 au 8 pluviôse an IX (28 janvier 1801).
En 1838, l'exploitation des gisements ferrugineux de la commune cesse.

Lagnes is mentioned in 1154 under the name of Lagnas.
Co-lordship from the 13th to the 16th century then administrative independence. From the 11th to the 13th century, the abbey of Saint-André de Villeneuve-lès-Avignon had a church there, Sancti Joannis de Greso (Saint-Jean du Grès), which then passed to the bishop of Cavaillon.
Modern period
In 1648, despite the promises made to the inhabitants wishing to remain under the authority of the Holy See, Innocent X erected the fief as a marquisate, for the benefit of Louis de Cambis.
In 1720, the plague began to rise from Marseilles throughout Provence. To protect the Comtat Venaissin from the plague victims of Provence, the communes of the region then began the construction of a wall over 27 kilometers, the "wall of the plague", certain parts of which are still visible in the commune.
In the 18th century, the seigniory was shared between the Cambis and the Fortias, who occupied two separate residences, separated by a courtyard inside the castle enclosure.
Contemporary period
Lagnes was the capital of the canton during the Revolution (from September 14, 1791 to 8 Pluviôse Year IX (January 28, 1801).
In 1838, the exploitation of ferruginous deposits in the town ceased.
