"Albero (1158-97), Alexander (1168-97) and Dietrich (1173-1201) of Kerpen built a monastery for noble virgins on their property in Yee around 1175 with the permission of the EB of Cologne.

In the following decades, the monastery receives rich donations from the nobility, the people and the clergy. In 1246 Pope Innocent IV takes the monastery under his protection and confirms all donations and privileges. 1322 Numerous indulgences bring pilgrims and pilgrimages. Opulence and prosperity increase; monastic discipline and morals decline more and more. 1460: the monastery has large debts. 1474: a great fire destroys the monastery and part of the monastery church. It is seen as the punishing hand of God. 1505: the monastery is deserted by fire and disorderly government.

The abbot of Steinfeld and the sovereigns of Niederehe urge the removal of the nuns and the conversion into a men's monastery. 1505: Prior Heinrich von Engelen from the abbey of Steinfeld moves into the Niederehe monastery with patres. Soon discipline, order and prosperity return.

1569-93: church services remain suspended, as the lords of Manderscheid-Schleiden converted to the Lutheran faith. 1593: Niederehe comes into the possession of the Catholic Count Philipp von der Mark. The monastery can continue to develop freely. 1700: Expansion of the convent and a novitiate school. 1803: Dissolution of all ecclesiastical and secular dominions by the French government. The monastery is dissolved. The estates are auctioned off for 1260, the brewery for 245 and the monastery mill for 360 thalers.

The entire monastery complex is still well preserved today. It is enclosed by the old monastery wall made of quarry stones. The former monastery church is now a parish church."
