The history of the chapel is closely linked to the more than 660-year-old Onze Lieve Vrouwe Gilde van Holthees. Many royal shields of the Guild members have been donated to this chapel. Even today, the celebration of the traditional Guild Masses of the O.L.V.Gilde on Candlemas and Whit Monday still takes place in the chapel.
