On the occasion of King Willem-Alexander's accession to the throne on April 30, 2013, the city of Leeuwarden planted a Koningslinden (Royal Lime) tree on the Werdenerspoortsdwinger street. The artist Jan Ketelaar, in collaboration with the Leeuwarden company de Men van Staal, designed a bench that also serves as a protective fence for the linden tree. Twelve oversized, differently shaped linden leaves made of Corten steel have been welded together to form a closed ring. The text "koningslinde Willem-Alexander 2013" was cut out of one of the leafs, the seating was installed in 2014.
