There is a wooden rail in front of the altar. This is where you would knell when you received holy communion. This is very unusual as most Catholic Churches have a rail made of marble. The rail in most Catholic Churches however have been removed.

Saint Martin de Tours Parish is part of the rich history of Louisiana for over 250 years founded in 1765. It has one of the oldest Catholic churches in America, and the third oldest in Louisiana. The church was dedicated on June 2, 1844.
