Wierickepad, Driebruggen, right behind the watchtower “Wierickewachter”
Unveiled on February 7, 2018
On 7 February 2018, Hoogheemraadschap De Stichtse Rijnlanden handed over the Wierickewachter watchtower to the municipality of Bodegraven-Reeuwijk. The tower, built by students of the Wellant college in Houten under the supervision of the Peek contractor, is the final piece of the Redevelopment Single Wiericke project. This project, which lasted seven hairs, aimed to improve the eastern quay of the Single Wiericke and to make the Single Wiericke, a canal, more nature-friendly by creating ecological beds.
To celebrate the completion of the project, partly on the initiative of the Village Team Driebruggen, the idea was launched to place a lookout in the trees on the Single Wiericke. Unfortunately, the trees turned out to be too weak for a tree house. A watchtower was built next to the trees, which was given the name Wierickewachter. Cormorants, crafted by Dave Harmsworth through chainsaw art, were placed on the treetops.
