Mikey Ascolillo - father, friend to many, life-long artist, and respected tattooist - is remembered with a mural at Porzio Park in his neighborhood of Jeffries Point in East Boston, Massachusetts. "...[A]ffectionately known in Eastie as ‘Asco’ or ‘Mikey’, [he] died unexpectedly following complications from heart valve surgery on Saturday, June 13, 2015. He was 37 years old", according to his touching obituary.
Filling the entire south side of an outdoor handball court wall, the memorial art work features his name in large, fancy, block lettering beneath a ribbon banner with "in loving memory" in script text. A photo-realistic rendering of his gloved hands applying a tattoo is at the bottom right corner. His young daughters' names - Mia and Alexis - appear centered along the bottom edge. The monochrome, graffiti style, blue hued and black paint scheme faces a basketball court and Boston Harbor beyond.
