Jirí Hillebrandt of Prandau began the construction of the original 16th century fortress into a chateau in the first half of the 18th century. In 1763 he sold the castle to Empress Maria Theresa, who in turn sold it to General Arnost Gideon Laudon, under whom the construction was completed in 1774. After World War II, the dilapidated castle was confiscated and used by the Archives of the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences. In 1995 the castle was bought by musician Robert Kodym, who is gradually reconstructing it. The castle is a two-storey four-winged building decorated with pilasters with an arcaded courtyard and a mansard roof. All the wings have been preserved in the Baroque style, only the eastern wing has been modified in the Rococo style.
