This large railroad bridge is located in Guelph, Ontario. The Macdonell Street Railway Bridge is approximately 170m long and has six stone supports that date back possibly to 1857. The deck of the bridge was replaced in 1948 and was recently replaced again in 2021 for increased usage by GO Transit.
The massive bridge crosses over Elizabeth Street (two entrances), the Speed River, a Canadian Pacific rail-line and Wellington Street. The bridge actually runs parallel to Macdonell Street. The bridge is also known as Allan's Bridge, for its proximity to Allan's Dam which is underneath the bridge.
An interesting facet of the bridge is the large spaces between it's pillar supports which were to allow for a second line on top that never materialized.
Bridge Type: Girder
Bridge Usage: Railroad
Moving Bridge: This bridge is static (has no moving pieces)
