This sculpture garden is on the west side of Theater Memphis, and depicts a woman in long flowing robes, holding a dagger and facing a group of other characters. The sculpture is entitled "Dramatis Personae: Medea." This set of abstract sculptures was created by Anthony Lawrence in 1978-79 and dedicated in June 1983.

Medea was the grand-daughter of the sun god Helios. Like most princesses of Greek mythology, was usually depicted as a beautiful woman in both literature and art. But Medea’s most important attribute was her skill as a witch and magician. She assisted Jason in the theft of the Golden Fleece, and later wed King Aegeus. She eventually settled in present-day Iran and became the namesake of the Medes.
