Memorial floor slab in St Mary's church, Ottery St Mary, to Richard Chanon (d.1668) with a coat of arms.
Sadly, without the tinctures it is difficult to ascribe the heraldry. The nearest matches being those of NICHOLSON (or, on a chev. embattled az. betw. three eagles’ heads erased gu.) and MAYNARD (Argent, a chevron azure between three sinister hands couped at the wrist gules), although no connection is apparent.
The inscription reads -
RICHARD CHANON ESQ. BURI

85th YEARE OF HIS AGE HERE
LYETH WITH RICHARD HIS
SON, KATHARINE & JOANNA
