The two and three storey building has a long façade. in both the Olde English and Queen Anne styles using Dichromatic local brick with steep pitched slate roof. The Main façade is broken by gable projections and main entry. Red brick was used for quoining, string courses and openings.
The school opened in 1894 and was named The Armidale School in 1896. The chapel was completed in 1904. The site has also been enlarged a number of times. The school was later acquired by the Church of England.
The school is now co-educational and is home to over 230 boarders from across NSW, interstate and overseas.
