The website for The Gothic Revival style Trinity Church describes its complex history:
"OUR HISTORY
1884
Our beautiful church was consecrated as Emmanual Episcopal Church. The Gothic building, a gift of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas J. Montgomery, was typical of country church’s in Montgomery’s native England. Among Trinity’s outstanding features are the hand-carved woodwork, magnificent brick arches, Tiffany-era west window, and beautiful Hook & Hastings tracker organ (1885).
1953
Trinity Fellowship was formed when the local Baptist and United Congregational churches joined to worship in the Episcopalian Church on Severance Street.
1971
United Methodist Church members joined Trinity Church. Today, the former Congregational Church is the Shelburne-Buckland Community Center, and the former United Methodist Church (part of the Trinity in 1971) is now the Seventh Day Adventist Church. The Baptist Church at Main and Water streets is no longer standing, but the green is used for the seasonal farmers’ market, fall Cider Days festival, and numerous other community events throughout the year."
The cornerstone for the stone Emmanuel Memorial Episcopal Church was laid in 1883 and the building was completed in 1884. The building was designed by the Bartlett Brothers and Thomas J. Montgomery. The north facing façade of the church has an entrance at the base of a gable end on the northwest corner of the church which is two bays deep. The wooden double door entrance has decorative iron hinges and is set within a Gothic arch. To the left of the entrance is a five sided pavilion with a tapered roof.
Beyond the pavilion, on the main block, is are three sets of double windows outlined with brownstone Gothic arches. At the northeast corner is a projecting gable end with a sloping roof which is connected to a tower which has a dormer at its base and a tapered octagonal spire with alternating triangular windows and topped with a cross. At the easternmost end of the church is a six sided pavilion with a tapered roof.
The Severance Street side of the building has a chimney and the gable end of the main block of the church. Two windows in the middle of the gable are outlined in brownstone Gothic arches. The gable is topped by a cross.
