The visitor center is open from 9:00am to 5:00pm daily, but is closed for major holidays. Parking and restrooms are available.
The Underground Railroad stamp is located inside the visitor center, on a table just inside the door. There is an inkpad and practice paper.
The Portage Railroad was part of the Mainline Canal system of transportation from Philadelphia to Pittsburgh. Some fugitives traveled on the canals, described by signage "in plain sight" mixing in with the free African Americans.
