This pillar lies on the summit area of Broad Moss, a hill of around 300 metres lying just over two miles to the north-east of the Perthshire town of Blairgowrie, the highest point of a range of hills between here and the smaller town of Alyth on the north side of Strathmore.

The pillar lies within a large grass field used for livestock, although the highest point is actually a few yards to the north-west, the flatness of the summit of the hill makes this hard to spot. The pillar stands on a stone pedestal and views are extensive towards the south.

STEEPNESS: A short steep pull in all directions initially before the flattish top.

TERRAIN: Mostly grass fields, some long grass in places.

ACCESSIBILITY: Trackless for the last half mile to the pillar in all directions. The only points of access are from the minor Bonnington Road to the west that heads north from Blairgowrie. One route heads from a public path north-eastwards up the hill through fields, the other from further north up the road heads east along a track, before heading southwards, then south-westwards up the hill. Other directions to the top of the hill are barred by cropland.

NAVIGATION: The route up from the south-west heads towards a mobile phone mast that is prominent on that side of the hill. From here the pillar is in view across the final fence. From the track to the west, bear southwards upon reaching a small pond and head up the eastern edge of a wood, from here a gate offers access to the field the pillar is in, and it is south-west from there.

DANGER: Many fences or gates need to be climbed, especially from the south-west, with most of then being barbed-wired. Be wary of livestock too.
