A cottage of painted double brick construction. The corrugated galvanized iron roof has ogee type gutters and front and back verandahs. Built in 1884 as a private home for G.H. Royce and family the engineer in charge of building the Namoi River Bridge. The building was extended in 1908 to include a bakery and shop.
