The H M Coastguards are responsible for implementing safety at sea.
Checking that UK and foreign seafaring vessels are safe and meet the UK and international safety rules. They work to prevent loss of life, and sea pollution etc.
The Radio Coastguard station monitors maritime radio frequencies and shipping radar.
If they should receive a distress signal then the appropriate procedure would be put into place.
