1876 gründete der Holländer Eugen Verpoorten das Unternehmen Verpoorten in Heinsberg, das sich auf die Herstellung von Eierlikör spezialisiert hat. Bis heute befindet sich das Unternehmen in Familienbesitz und stellt nach dem gleichen, streng gehüteten Rezept den Likör her. Seit 1952 befindet sich der Hauptsitz und die Produktionsstätte am Potsdamer Platz in Bonn.

Weltberühmt wurde der Eierlikör in den 1960er Jahren durch intensives Marketing und den Werbeslogan "Ei, ei, ei - Verpoorten", der bis heute als Leuchtreklame auf dem Dach des Firmengebäudes zu lesen ist. Heutzutage ist Verpoorten einer der bekanntesten Eierliköre weltweit und wird in 30 Länder exportiert. In Deutschland ist er in jedem Spirituosengeschäft zu finden. Inzwischen stellt die Firma auch andere Lebensmittel wie Torten, Eis und Desserts her, die den Eierlikör beinhalten.
