En 1981, sous l’impulsion de Jean Garcin, connu sous le nom de « Colonel Bayard » pendant la Résistance, le département de Vaucluse acquiert la collection privée (ou « Musée des Restrictions ») de Raymond Granier, constituée d’un fonds unique de plus de 10?000 objets, documents, photographies et autres archives, illustrant la vie quotidienne sous l’Occupation. La muséographie a été en partie confiée à Willy Holt, décorateur illustre de l’histoire du cinéma. Inauguré en juillet 1990, le musée fonde sa politique sur une approche interdisciplinaire, mêlant histoire, littérature et art.

Le visiteur est invité à imaginer la vie quotidienne dans le Vaucluse, sous l’Occupation, à travers un riche fonds d’objets rappelant le régime de restriction en vigueur entre 1939 et 1949. Le décor reconstitue les lieux de vie de la communauté (école, mairie, épicerie, librairie) et la mise en place de la Collaboration, en contrepoint de l’élan vers la liberté et du travail de l’ombre des Résistants qui est notamment évoqué à travers les manuscrits et éditions originales de René Char, Max Jacob, Georges Rouault et Paul Eluard.

né le 11 janvier 1917 à Fontaine-de-Vaucluse et mort le 4 septembre 2006 à L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, est un résistant et un homme politique français. Connu sous le pseudonyme de commandant Bayard, il fut chef des Groupes francs (MUR) du département de Vaucluse et de la région R2 durant la Seconde Guerre mondiale, puis nommé chef du 3e Bureau Opérations et Actions avec le grade de lieutenant-colonel avant le débarquement en Provence et Inspecteur Régional des FFI après le 10 août 1944. Homme politique et socialiste, il fut élu conseiller général de L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue (1945-1998), maire de Fontaine-de-Vaucluse, président du conseil général de Vaucluse (1970-1992) et vice-président du conseil régional de la région Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur. Le 30 octobre 1957, il fut fait officier de la Légion d’honneur.

Inaugurated in July 1990, the museum bases its policy on an interdisciplinary approach, combining history, literature and art.

Known under the pseudonym of Major Bayard, he was head of the Groupes francs (MUR) of the department of Vaucluse and the R2 region during the Second World War, then appointed head of the 3rd Bureau Operations and Actions with the rank of lieutenant-colonel before the landing in Provence and Regional Inspector of the FFI after August 10, 1944. Politician and socialist, he was elected general councilor of L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue (1945-1998), mayor of Fontaine-de-Vaucluse, president of the general council of Vaucluse (1970-1992) and vice-president of the regional council of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. On October 30, 1957, he was made an officer of the Legion of Honor.
