The battlefield of Waterloo, the site of Napoleon's last battle. The battle took place on 18 June 1815. Napoleon Bonaparte was defeated by a British-German-Dutch army, led by General Arthur Wellesley, Duke of Wellington, and a Prussian army under Marshal Gebhard Leberecht von Blücher.
Many soldiers were killed in the battle. Napoleon lost 25,000 men, Wellington 15,000 and Blücher 10,000 men.

On the former battlefield there are now several museums and monuments. A statue of Napoleon is located below the eye-catching 40 meter high monument "Lion's Mound" a man-made hill with a lion sculpture on top.
