Naast het Chateau St Gerlach ligt wat verscholen een kleine rozentuin. De tuin is geopend in 1999 ter gelegenheid van de 90ste verjaardag van H.K.H Prinses Juliana.
In de tuin zijn overal bankjes en zitjes waar het met mooi weer heerlijk is om even tot rust te komen.
Verschillende wandelroutes komen langs de achterzijde van het kasteel op weg naar een natuurgebied. Je loopt dan ook langs deze rozentuin.
Vanaf dit wandelpad kun je de tuin niet in.
In de tuinen voor het kasteel is een beeldentuin ingericht. Hier staat ook een groot mozaieken draaiend Fabergé ei.
"Château St. Gerlach
Château St. Gerlach (toen nog Klooster St. Gerlach) werd in de twaalfde eeuw gebouwd als klooster ter ere van kluizenaar Gerlachus. Gerlachus kwam hier vaak om zich terug te trekken in het Geuldal om te bidden en tegelijkertijd op bedevaart te gaan naar het graf van Servatius van Maastricht. Nadat Gerlachus heilig was verklaard liet de Valkenburgse heer Gosewijn IV bij het graf een kloosterkerk bouwen: Klooster St. Gerlach. Nadien heeft het klooster een rijke geschiedenis beleefd.
In 1345 werd het klooster tot nonnenklooster omgevormd en veel adellijke families stuurden hun dochters die niet konden of wilden huwen hiernaartoe. In 1575, tijdens de Tachtigjarige oorlog werd het klooster verwoest door Lodwijk van Nassau tijdens een veldtoch tegen de Spanjaarden. Echter in 1661 kwam het kloosten weer onder Spaanse soevereiniteit. Vervolgens kwam het via een ruil in 1786 weer in Hollandse handen. Na de Franse inval in 1795 werden alle kloosters in de bezette Nederlanden geconfisqueerd. Notaris Schoenmaeckers kocht daarna het complex. Schoenmaeckers maakte van het klooster een kasteelachtig lanshuis en doopte de naam om in zoals het nu kennen: 'Château St. Gerlach'. Jaren later kwam het Château in de handen van de familie De Selys de Fanson die het bewoonden tot 1979. Hierna raakte het complex erg ten val.
In 1994 kocht hotelier Camille Oostwegel die het hele gebouwencomplex renoveerde. Het is nu één van de vijf vijfsterrenhotels in Nederland. Bekende namen die hier overnacht hebben zijn The Rolling Stones (na hun Pinkpop concert) en George Bush (na een bezoek aan de Amerikaanse militaire begraafplaats in Margraten)."

Next to the Chateau St Gerlach is a smal rose garden hidden. The garden was opened in 1999 on the occasion of the 90th birthday of HRH Princess Juliana.
There are benches and seating areas everywhere in the garden where it is wonderful to relax in good weather.
Several hiking trails pass the rear of the castle on their way to a nature reserve. You will also walk past this rose garden. From this path there in no entry to the garden.
A sculpture garden has been set up in the gardens in front of the castle. There is also a large mosaic rotating Fabergé egg here.
"Château St. Gerlach
Château St. Gerlach (then Monastery St. Gerlach) was built in the twelfth century as a monastery in honor of the hermit Gerlachus. Gerlachus often came here to retreat to the Geul Valley to pray and at the same time make a pilgrimage to the grave of Servatius of Maastricht. After Gerlachus was canonized, the Valkenburg lord Gosewijn IV had a monastery church built near the grave: Monastery St. Gerlach. Since then, the monastery has experienced a rich history.
In 1345 the monastery was converted into a nunnery and many noble families sent their daughters here who could not or would not marry. In 1575, during the Eighty Years' War, the monastery was destroyed by Louis of Nassau during a campaign against the Spaniards. However, in 1661 the monasteries came under Spanish sovereignty again. It then came back into Dutch hands through an exchange in 1786. After the French invasion in 1795, all monasteries in the occupied Netherlands were confiscated. Notary Schoenmaeckers then bought the complex. Schoenmaeckers turned the monastery into a castle-like lance house and renamed the name as it is now known: 'Château St. Gerlach'. Years later, the Château came into the hands of the De Selys de Fanson family who lived in it until 1979. After this, the complex fell seriously.
In 1994, hotelier Camille bought Oostwegel who renovated the entire building complex. It is now one of the five five-star hotels in the Netherlands. Well-known names who have stayed here are The Rolling Stones (after their Pinkpop concert) and George Bush (after a visit to the American military cemetery in Margraten)."
