Bear Mountain Resort is a golf resort and neighbourhood centred around two courses: the Mountain course, and the Valley course. Both are 18-hole courses designed by Jack Nicklaus.
The Mountain course is laid out on rugged terrain on the slopes of Skirt Mountain, with many large elevation changes and obstacles. This was the original, flagship course at the resort, opening in the summer of 2003. It has a par of 72 over a distance of 7212 yards from the Golden tees. The 14th hole of the Mountain course has sweeping views from the side of the mountain out over greater Victoria from an elevation of 300 metres. Soon after opening, the Mountain course was rated the #1 new course in Western Canada, and in 2005 was named the #1 course in all of Canada.
In 2009, the Valley course opened just to the north of the Mountain course. As the name implies, it's located lower down and has much flatter terrain, but is still challenging. It has a par of 71 using the Golden tees, measuring 6807 yards.
In 2015, Golf Canada announced that they would make Bear Mountain Resort the official training centre for the national teams.
The two courses share the same clubhouse, which is located within The Westin Bear Mountain hotel.
