Een smederij-familie
Gerrit Jan Broeze begon als hoefsmid een eenmansbedrijf in 1922. Zijn zonen (Bertus en Jan Broeze) namen het stokje over en startten met het vervaardigen van landbouwmachines en stalhekken. De derde generatie Broeze (Gert-Jan Broeze) bleef actief in de staalbouw en maakte het familiebedrijf tot een dynamisch en marktgerichte organisatie, met specialisaties in de bouw en industrie (Broeze Nijverdal).
Historie
De oprichting van de stichting en het museum
Jan Broeze, die als zoon van de hoefsmid zelf het smidsvak ook goed kende, vond het jammer dat de karakteristieke ambacht van het smeden uitstierf. In 1989 werd daarom stichting d’Oale Smederië opgericht. Met als doelstelling het oude ambacht van de smid in ere te herstellen en dit voor publiek te demonstreren. Dankzij financiële en materiële steun van velen kon een wagenschuur worden herbouwd en ingericht als smederij. Op vrijdag 21 april 1995 werd het museum aan de Hofmanstraat geopend.
Nog altijd actief
De familie Broeze zet zich nog altijd in voor het bestaan van ‘d Oale Smederië en het behoud van het oude ambachtelijke smidsvak. Gert-Jan Broeze is sinds 2018 voorzitter van de stichting en wil er nieuw leven in blazen. Om de edele smeedkunst niet verloren te laten gaan, worden er nog altijd cursussen gegeven in het museum.
Cursussen
In de smederij hebben we al meer dan honderd cursisten mogen ontvangen en opleiding en het smidsvak, zowel in de recreatieve, artistieke als professionele richting."

The foundation of the foundation and the museum

Still active
The Broeze family is still committed to the existence of 'd Oale Smederië and the preservation of the old traditional blacksmith trade. Gert-Jan Broeze has been chairman of the foundation since 2018 and wants to breathe new life into it. In order not to let the noble art of blacksmithing go to waste, courses are still given in the museum.
