Immortelle de la culture québécoise, Rita Lafontaine a maintenant son nom gravé dans la pierre au centre-ville de Trois-Rivières.

Pour honorer la mémoire de la grande dame de théâtre, il est inscrit sur cette plaque commémorative :

Native de Trois-Rivières, c'est dans sa ville natale qu'elle a entrepris sa carrière de comédienne, sur la scène et à la radio.
Plus tard, à Montréal, elle est devenue l'interprète préférée de l'auteur Michel Tremblay. Elle a aussi laissé sa marque au cinéma et à la télévision.

Située entre la bibliothèque Gatien-Lapointe et le parc Champlain au centre-ville de Trois-Rivières, la place Rita-Lafontaine se retrouve ainsi au cœur du centre-ville, près des lieux culturels. Sept plaques en son honneur délimitent la place qui porte son nom.

Que ce soit au théâtre, à la télévision, au cinéma ou dans les salles de classe, Rita Lafontaine a marqué des générations de Québécois. Elle a joué dans de très nombreuses pièces de Michel Tremblay, mais aussi dans des séries comme Les Moineau et les Pinson, Cormoran, Le Retour ou encore L’Auberge du chien noir. Au grand écran, elle a marqué l’imaginaire dans Françoise Durocher, waitress, Il était une fois dans l’Est et bien sûr, dans La Grande Séduction.

En plus de s’être illustrée dans ses nombreux rôles, Rita Lafontaine était aussi une femme d’enseignement. Passionnée par son art, elle a su allumer de nombreuses flammes. À l’origine de la création du certificat en interprétation théâtrale à l’Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières (UQTR) où elle a enseigné, Rita Lafontaine a aussi reçu un doctorat honorifique de cette institution en 2009.

Sa grande carrière l'a amenée à remporter de nombreuses distinctions, dont le titre d'officière de l'Ordre du Canada (2005) et de l'Ordre national du Québec (2011).

Immortal of Quebec culture, Rita Lafontaine now has her name engraved in stone in downtown Trois-Rivières.

To honor the memory of the great lady of theatre, it is inscribed on this commemorative plaque:

Place Rita Lafontaine

A native of Trois-Rivières, it was in her hometown that she began her career as an actress, on stage and on the radio.
Later, in Montreal, she became author Michel Tremblay's favorite performer. She also left her mark in film and television.

Located between the Gatien-Lapointe library and Champlain Park in downtown Trois-Rivières, Place Rita-Lafontaine is thus located in the heart of downtown, near cultural venues. Seven plaques in his honor mark the square that bears his name.

Whether in the theatre, on television, in the cinema or in the classroom, Rita Lafontaine has marked generations of Quebecers. She has acted in numerous plays by Michel Tremblay, but also in series such as Les Moineau et les Pinsons, Cormoran, Le Retour and L'Auberge du Chien Noir. On the big screen, she marked the imagination in Françoise Durocher, waitress, Once upon a time in the East and of course, in La Grande Séduction.

In addition to having distinguished herself in her many roles, Rita Lafontaine was also a woman of education. Passionate about her art, she knew how to light many flames. At the origin of the creation of the certificate in theatrical interpretation at the University of Quebec at Trois-Rivières (UQTR) where she taught, Rita Lafontaine also received an honorary doctorate from this institution in 2009.

Her great career has led her to win numerous distinctions, including the title of Officer of the Order of Canada (2005) and the National Order of Quebec (2011).
