The statue is in the Plaza Nueva, central and next to the Town Hall. The rider poses on the horse that has all its legs on the ground, with a blessing pose, with a cross in his hand. It is at a considerable height of about eight meters. His side figures are also worth a visit.

En: "The monument in honour of King Saint Ferdinand is located in the centre of one of the most important squares in Seville: Plaza Nueva.

The initial idea of a monument to the Holy King came from the mayor Francisco Javier Cavestany in 1848, when the square was still being built, on a plot of land where the Casa Grande de San Francisco Convent used to stand.

The final construction of the monument involved the most important artists at the time. The pedestal and the idea for the monument were designed by Juan Talavera and Heredia. The sides are made up of the figures of four characters who accompanied the Holy King in the conquest of Seville. Alfonso X was made by Enrique Pérez Comendador; Garci Pérez de Vargas was made by Joaquín Sánchez Cid. Ramon Bonifaz was made by José Lafita Díaz. Don Remondo was made by Alfonso López Rodríguez. Crowning the pedestal is the equestrian statue of San Fernando, by Joaquin Bilbao.

It was officially unveiled on 15 August 1924.

The Virgen de los Reyes was brought out in procession to the foot of the monument especially to mark the event ."

"Ferdinand III (Spanish: Fernando; 1199/1201 – 30 May 1252), called the Saint (el Santo), was King of Castile from 1217 and King of León from 1230 as well as King of Galicia from 1231. He was the son of Alfonso IX of León and Berenguela of Castile. Through his second marriage he was also Count of Aumale. Ferdinand III was one of the most successful kings of Castile, securing not only the permanent union of the crowns of Castile and León, but also masterminding the most expansive southward territorial expansion campaign yet in the Guadalquivir Valley, in which Islamic rule was in disarray in the wake of the decline of the Almohad presence in the Iberian Peninsula.

By military and diplomatic efforts, Ferdinand greatly expanded the dominions of Castile by annexing the Guadalquivir river valley in the south of the Iberian Peninsula, establishing the boundaries of the Castilian state for the next two centuries. New territories included important cities such as Baeza, Úbeda, Jaén, Córdoba or Seville, that were subject of Repartimiento, given a new general charter and repopulated in the following years.

Ferdinand was canonized in 1671 by Pope Clement X. Places such as the cities of San Fernando, Pampanga and San Fernando, La Union; the Diocese of Ilagan and the San Fernando de Dilao Church in Paco, Manila in the Philippines; and in the United States, in California the City of San Fernando, the San Fernando Valley, and in Texas the Cathedral of San Fernando in San Antonio were all named after him."
