[ENG] Polar bears in Poland? Don't worry, you are not in danger. The sign was put here in remembrance of Baska - a polar bear that used to live in Modlin fortress after World War I. The lady bear was bought by a soldier in some marketplace in Russia and soon became a part of his army unit. She was trained to become a soilder and learned to salute and march. When her unit got an order to come back to Poland, she also came. Unfortunately, she didn't enjoy a long and peaceful life in Modlin. She soon ran away and swam across the Vistula river, where she was killed.

[PL] Niedzwiedzie Polarne w Polsce? Przeszla trening wojskowy i nauczyla sie salutowac i maszerowac. Gdy jej oddzial dostal rozkaz powrotu do Polski, wrócila razem z nimi. Niestety nie cieszyla sie dlugim zyciem w twierdzy Modlin. Uciekla i przeplynela przez Wisle, gdzie zostala zabita.
