The single-aisled church, originally dedicated to Saint Michael, was built of tuff in the 12th century. In the 13th century the church was extended to the east. In the reduced westwork with constricted spire is a cachot (17th century). In the tower hangs a bell (1618) by bell founder Hans Falck.

The interior is covered by a wooden barrel vault that was installed in 1684 by Pijter Martens to replace a roof that was destroyed by a hurricane in 1681. The five-sided closed choir (15th century) contains a sacrament house. The pulpit dates from the 17th century. There are two covered double gentlemen's benches from the 17th century and two from the 18th century. The organ from 1875 was built by L. van Dam and Sons.

In 1975 the church was restored under the direction of G.M. van Manen and J. Zwart. The church building is a national monument.
