"In 1936, Jan Van den Berg opened a tea house with a terrace, Our Ideal, on the Hellendoornse Berg. To attract more visitors, he added some play equipment. Two years later he changed the name to Relaxation Center De Elf Provinciën. Over the years, several play areas were added and the tea house expanded into a restaurant. Construction of the Maze began in 1947, which would eventually take three years to complete. The restaurant was also expanded with additional rooms. In 1956 the park started with the construction of a fairytale garden.

The first major attractions were added in the 1970s, such as the monorail, Casa Magnetica, the Sea Lion Show, the Westernhal and Jungle Vaart (1979).
