Zurich is a village in the north of the Netherlands with 145 inhabitants.
Over time, the village has had various names. In 1352 the village was called Zuderinghe, in 1353 Zudrineghe, in 1399 Sudringe, in 1482 Surich, in 1505 Suyrich, in 1579 Surich and in the late 17th century as Swrich.
The name is very similar to Zurich which is located in Switzerland and in English identical. As a result, the village receives many visitors, including from Switzerland. A plan by the municipality of Wonseradeel in 2000 to switch from the Dutch Zurich to the Frisian Surch was opposed by the villagers. Therefore, the municipality withdrew the proposal and the city is therefore still called Zurich.
