The press originates from Buckland Abbey in Devon. It squeezes the pomace from apples into juice. This is a screw press which was tightened to extract the juice from the straw and pomace mixture called 'cheese'. The leftovers were also used for weak cider or animal feed.

It is housed in this historic mill which is the museum, taking up a whole corner.
