Clifton is a copper mining town in eastern Arizona established in 1873. Engines, such as No. 8, were used to move ore from the mine five miles up the hill to the smelter at the intersection of Chase Creek and the San Francisco River. It was built in 1897 by H. K. Porter and Co. and is a type 0-4-4T. It was retired in 1922 as the company moved to standard gauge rails for longer runs. It was restored in 1937 and is on open display at the Clifton Plaza, next to the original jail.
