"Hendrik Magdalenus (Dick) Bruna (Utrecht, August 23, 1927 - there, February 16, 2017) was a Dutch graphic designer, illustrator and writer of children's books. He became world famous with his children's books about miffy."

"The artwork by Jacques Tange (
visit link) has graced the Mariaplaats since September 2016. On one side of the statue you see miffy (
visit link) herself. On the other side a image of Dick Bruna (
visit link) , the spiritual father of miffy. The reason the Mariaplaats was chosen is that the square was part of Dick Bruna's regular bicycle route to his studio.
The sculpture was part of the miffy art parade. An exhibition about miffy in which different artists had to make a work of art on a miffy statue. After the exhibition all sculptures were auctioned, one of which was bought by the entrepreneurs around the square."

The miffy sculpture is made of fiberglass reinforced polyester and consists of two separate parts glued together.
The plaque is written in Dutch and in English and reads:
"Here they stand together,
On a pedestal of grid.
Dick Bruna and miffy,
A father and his kit."
