"The above Cemetery was started in 1852, by ten citizens, who were unwilling to bury their dead
in the uninviting grounds belong to the city, with no intention, however, of making it a public burying
ground; but when the people saw the many improvements, and the evident determination of the
managers to make it an ornament to the city, they insisted upon buying lots, and the managers, were, I
might say, foolish enough to sell them at first at the enormous price of $10 each, ... " ~ MoGenWeb - Cooper County
Read the words of Mr. C. F. Aehle, who's family starred and was responsible for this cemetery, until after 1900. The fence was an issue at times because the land, which is now a prison, was back then the fairgrounds.
This fence and multiple gates, one large double drive-thru gates and two smaller pedestrian gates, are ornate wrought iron. Typical of German blacksmiths of the mid-1800s.
The main dive-in gate has two large granite post on which there are mounted. The smaller gates have wrought iron posts.

The upper end of each vertical pipe is topped with a spear-head. The wrought iron post are loaded with ornate flowers and designs.
