Alice's Restaurant is very near Niederwald, TX on HWY 21. Arlo Guthrie was never there, but then again, that was not the name of the restaurant in his anti-war song - just the name of his song! (see lyrics)

Alice's Restaurant Massacree" (commonly referred to simply as "Alice's Restaurant") is singer-songwriter Arlo Guthrie's most famous work, a talking blues based on a true story that began on Thanksgiving Day 1965, and which inspired a 1969 movie. The song lasts 18 minutes and 20 seconds, occupying the entire A side of Guthrie's 1967 debut record album, titled Alice's Restaurant (Warner Reprise Records). It is notable as a satirical, first-person account of 1960s counterculture, in addition to being a hit song in its own right. Guthrie is the son of folk music legend Woody Guthrie
This is not the actual restaurant that Alice owned - at least not the Alice in the song. In fact, Alice's restaurant was never called that until after the song was written. (see lyrics)
Unfortuately, it looks like this particular Alice's is no longer open. It used to have a web site which is no longer there, and it still has a Google Maps entry. From the Google search, it looks like it was a live music venue until sometime in 2006. Now it looks like it is out of business.
The coordinates were taken on the south side of a very busy HWY 21, across from the restaurant and sign. Seeing the sign, the restaurant, and the area it is in always makes me hum the song. I was humming the song yesterday while taking the photos, and it hit me: that's the same melody for the Mister Gatti's pizza commercials. You know, call 4592222 and get a Mister Gatti's pizza delivered.
There is also a movie based on the song called "Alice's Restaurant".
Musician: Arlo Guthrie
Name of Song: Alice's Restaurant
Relevant Verse: This song is called Alice's Restaurant, and it's about Alice, and the restaurant, but Alice's Restaurant is not the name of the restaurant, that's just the name of the song, and that's why I called the song Alice's Restaurant.
