History of SC Öhningen e.V.

The SCÖ was initially founded on May 13, 1966 as the "Bootssportverein Öhningen".
Rowing boat owners, motorboat drivers and some early sailors hoped that by founding the association they would be able to better represent their interests, especially with regard to the question of berths in Oberstaad.
On the occasion of an extraordinary general meeting on December 2, 1967, the association was renamed "Segelclub Öhningen e.V.". At the same time, the club stand, 3 red stripes on a white background and the municipal coat of arms, were selected from several designs.

In 1968 the club joined the German Sailing Association, one year later the Bodensee Sailing Association.

In the spring of 1967 the first friendship regatta was held with at least 33 participants. A year later, the distance regatta from Öhningen to Reichenau and back takes place for the first time.

The club home and facility are making progress and in 1969 the first jetty was inaugurated. In 1973/74 a proper sanitary building was finally built.

In 1991 the 25th anniversary of the association was celebrated in a fitting manner.

At the beginning of the 1990s, the old jetty could hardly be kept in a traffic-safe condition, so a new port facility was considered. In 1994/95, the planning by the municipality, SCÖ and the Stäheli planning office led to the construction of today's floating jetty. The port was financed by advance payments from port residents, who received long-term leases. About half of the berths were rented by the municipality to the SCÖ, which rents the berths to its members.

During the great Pentecost flood of 1999, the club grounds were flooded, and the water in the clubhouse was knee-deep. The subsequent renovation led to the current state of the clubhouse.
The new sanitary building was completed in 2006.
