De beeldengroep “Eskimojongen met hond” is het afscheidscadeau aan de inwoners van Linschoten van Gert Elisa van den Burger (1919?-2014), van 1947 tot 1976 huisarts in Linschoten, en Wilhelmina (Mieke) van den Burger-Steensma (1924-2014), zijn echtgenote.

Op de sokkel van “Eskimojongen met hond” zijn twee ornamenten aangebracht. Rechtsboven op de sokkel is een klein ornament aangebracht: een sneeuwklokje. Links daaronder is een groot ornament aangebracht met naast de signatuur van Taeke Friso de Jong de versregels “Wie niet kan buigen, kan ook het sneeuwklokje niet zien”. Onder deze versregels staat de naam Georges Duhamel. Duhamel (1884-1966), zoon van een apotheker, was schrijver. In de Eerste Wereldoorlog werkte hij als chirurg aan de frontlinie.

Achter het sneeuwklokje schuilt een bijzonder verhaal. Linschoten zou rijk aan sneeuwklokjes zijn. Mieke van den Burger heeft in de Tweede Wereldoorlog in diverse Duitse gevangeniskampen gezeten. Haar moeder had haar per brief een pol sneeuwklokjes gestuurd met haar brief. Sneeuwklokjes waren de lievelingsbloemen van Mieke. De Duitse soldaten stonden haar toe om de sneeuwklokjes te houden en dit was een grote opsteker voor Mieke en de andere gevangenen. Mieke zou de terreur van de Tweede Wereldoorlog overleven om zich in Linschoten met haar man te vestigen.

The sculpture group “Eskimo boy with dog” is the parting gift to the residents of Linschoten from Gert Elisa van den Burger (1919?-2014), a general practitioner in Linschoten from 1947 to 1976, and Wilhelmina (Mieke) van den Burger-Steensma (1924-2014). ), his wife.

Two ornaments have been applied to the pedestal of “Eskimo Boy with Dog”. At the top right of the pedestal is a small ornament: a snowdrop. Below to the left is a large ornament with, next to the signature of Taeke Friso de Jong, the verse lines "Who cannot bend, cannot see the snowdrop either". Below these lines of verse is the name Georges Duhamel. Duhamel (1884-1966), son of a pharmacist, was a writer. During the First World War he worked as a surgeon on the front line.

Behind the snowdrop lies a special story. Linschoten is said to be rich in snowdrops. Mieke van den Burger spent the Second World War in various German prison camps. Her mother had sent her a clump of snowdrops with her letter by letter. Snowdrops were Mieke's favorite flowers. The German soldiers allowed her to keep the snowdrops and this was a big boost for Mieke and the other prisoners. Mieke would survive the terror of the Second World War to settle in Linschoten with her husband.
