En: "The Murillo Gardens located after the Paseo de Catalina de Ribera, are made up of small roundabouts with fountains that articulate the space and in which brick and ceramics are, together with the incredible and wonderful vegetation, the true protagonists of this central Seville venue.

The Murillo Gardens, formerly known as the Gardens or Huerta del Retiro, were part of the Reales Alcázares of Seville until 1862 when they were donated to the city to form part of the expansion of the Fair that was then held in the neighboring Meadow of San Sebastian.

These Gardens as we know them today were designed in 1915 by Juan Talavera. It will be in 1918 when, at the request of the director of the newspaper El Liberal, they are given the name Jardines de Murillo because the painter was buried in the church that was in the nearby Plaza de Santa Cruz.

Magnolias, orange trees, ficus, ladies of the night are some of the plant species that intermingle with roundabouts, fountains, ceramics and monuments in these extraordinary city gardens."
