"SAMPSON, Colyton co Devon settled there for more than two centuries and presumed to have come originally from Somersetshire wbere the family still holds lands. Sampson intermarried some generations since with the heiress of Braddich"

The inscription reads -
In the Vault near this Place
lieth the Body of
JOHN the Eldest Son of
JOHN SAMPSON the younger Esq.
who died the 12th Day of March 1792
Aged 14.
The deceased was an affectionate,
sincere and well informed Youth,
his Death was universally lamented
and by none more than JOHN SAMPSON
Esq. his Grandfather by whose Order
this Monument is erected.
Also by his side lieth the Body of the said
John Sampson Esq. his Grandfather
who died the 17th Day of March 1796 Aged 79
